The Practice
The Cricket Green Surgery is a modern, purpose built surgery, established at its current site since 1989.This successful practice has developed from a single-handed practice set up 101 years and we have just completed our centenary celebrations of offering primary care in Mitcham.
There are two full time partners, Dr Nav Chana and Dr Andrew Otley and two part time partners, Dr Margaret Cochrane and Dr Janet Gough.
The practice has a long tradition of teaching and training, with the practice accredited as a ‘hub’ University teaching practice and is responsible for training cohorts of medical students from St George’s on a regular basis.
We have been a training practice for 10 years and are situated in close proximity to both St. Helier and St. George’s hospitals.
In addition to standard primary care services the practice offers following specialised clinical services:
- Practice Based Mental Health, Primary Care Liaison Team, Springfield Hospital
- Psychology
- Physiotherapy
We are a fully computerised practice and have electronic links to local hospitals and have full internet and e-mail access. The practice library is extensive and is constantly updated in line with current clinical evidence.
The practice population has a diverse social and cultural mixture and the health needs of the population are challenging but also richly rewarding.
GP Training at Church Road
The GP registrar is full integrated as part of the “Church Road” team. The GP registrar enters into an educational agreement with the Trainer, which is fully supported by all practice members. Registrars attached to the practice have the benefit of their own room and working in a protected environment.
There is availability to a wide range of learning opportunities within the practice, at local hospitals and on the excellent St George’s Half Day Release Course.
The practice has an excellent track record of Summative Assessment and MRCGP passes and all registrars are expected to take the MRCGP and are fully supported throughout the process by the Trainer who is an MRCGP examiner.
Study leave is also fully supported and the practice subscribes to the local Trainers group arrangements for “out of hours” duties, which are phased in gradually and are not onerous.
The Trainer
Nav Chana is a trainer and is currently an Associate Dean for postgraduate GP Education, having been the Course Organiser at St George’s for seven years. He is also an examiner for the MRCGP and teaches on various MRCGP courses both locally and nationally. Andrew Otley is also a trainer who has facilitated MRCGP courses locally.
